Ri Ra in Portsmouth NH

Getting ready for St. Patrick’s Day this weekend? Or looking to celebrate on Saturday so you don’t miss work on Monday? Come on down to Ri Ra on Market Square in Portsmouth. They’ll be showing the Ireland v France rugby match – the last for this year’s 6 Nations Championship – at 1 p.m.

Of course, we’ll keep the afternoon moving when we play your favorite Irish songs and tunes from 2 until 5 p.m. The whole day is sure to put you in an Irish spirit and make St. Patrick proud.

Opening for Derek Warfield & The Young Wolfe Tones

A long-time icon of Irish music will be coming back to the Seacoast next month, and once again we’ll be honored to open for him!

Derek Warfield & The Young Wolfe Tones will be performing at Ri Ra’s Irish Pub in Portsmouth on March 12. Known throughout the world for their quality presentation of Irish patriotic songs and traditional music, The Young Wolfe Tones feature some of the finest Irish musicians and singers from a younger generation, and combine them with the legendary Derek Warfield — singer, stage personality, composer, and historian of the music and song tradition. The response to this union has been fantastic.

Liam Murphy, the former National Editor of Hibernian Digest, for example, offers high praise indeed. “Derek has long been the best front man in the country. There is no performer that can move an audience with words and song with such natural ease. His talented young band ‘The Young Wolfe Tones’ are the best ballad band in Ireland and lends an extra dimension to Irish song, music and history.”

Needless to say, seeing them live is well worth it. We had the opportunity to open for Derek and crew last year, and it was a blast of a night.

We hope you’ll join us on Wednesday, March 12 to kick off the St. Patrick’s Day season with a great night of music.

March Madness

Congrats, all! You’ve gotten through the worst of the winter. In New England, we’ve weathered Nemo and are already seeing longer, brighter days. Spring can’t be too far off now.

Of course, the end of February brings us to the ‘high holiday’ of Irish music…the madness of March, St. Patrick’s Day, and the assault of the “Plastic Paddys”…but we love it! For us, it’s a month-long opportunity to share the music we already love to play year-round.

Some people just want an excuse for self-abuse.

Regardless of how you want to mark the holiday, if you’re looking for some fun music, we’ve got a couple of gigs during the St. Patrick’s Day Weekend to let you know about.

Saturday, March 16 we’ll be playing a fundraising event at Ri Ra’s Irish Pub in Market Square, Portsmouth, NH from 2 – 5 pm.

Sunday, March 17, St. Patrick’s Day itself, we’ll be at Ri Ra again from noon to 4 pm for what promises to be a fantastic afternoon of mighty craic! We’re hoping to rope some of our friends on stage to join us as well, and we’d love to see you there.

And feel free to order whatever puts you in the mood…we’ll just be happy to see you. :-)
